About us
The family has a long history of being involved in property in the North East. Hastie Burton founded his own building firm in July 1904 before later incorporating Hastie D. Burton Ltd in 1927 during which time he built properties on a number of well-known streets including The Broadway, Millfield Gardens, Millview Drive and Queensway. Hastie also served as the Mayor of Tynemouth before passing on the reigns of Hastie D. Burton Ltd to his son, Dan and then Garry.
Hastie D. Burton Ltd was sold in 2007 to Northern Bear leading to the creation of Burton Collingwood Ltd as owner and landlord of the properties. The majority of the properties managed today remain those built by Hastie, Dan and Garry!
Garry has now been joined by his two sons - Peter and Christopher, the fourth generation of Burton’s who are both looking forward to the future progression of the firm.
In addition to Burton Collingwood Ltd, other companies include Church Way Investments Ltd and Murton Farm Estate Ltd which were formed in 2003 and 1944 respectively.
Church Way Investments has both commercial and residential properties based in North Shields whilst Murton Farm is an active farm along with an aspiration to develop the recently demolished steading adjacent to the refurbished farmhouse.

A previous member of the Chartered Institute of Building, Garry joined Hastie D. Burton Ltd in 1973. With a career spanning over 50 years in building, his experience is foundational to the firm’s success.
A prominent figure in the local golf scene, Garry is a past Captain of Alnmouth Golf Club and The Society of Northumberland Golf Captains
Peter Burton
Director
Peter is a Chartered Accountant (ICAS) who brings a wealth of corporate experience to the team. After building a successful career in London with major firms like BP and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, he returned home to the North East in 2014. Now settled locally with his young family, Peter balances his professional role with a love for the outdoors, often seen out on his bike when time allows.
Christopher Burton Director
Christopher is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). He began his career training with the AND Group on the North Shields Fish Quay, before spending several years in London working for global industry leaders including Arup, Smith & Williamson, and Siemens.
Now back in the North East, Christopher brings this extensive corporate experience to his role at Burton Collingwood. In his spare time, he is an active sportsman who enjoys playing golf, swimming, and following Newcastle United.
